CRIMINAL RATING SYSTEM
HOW CRIMINAL RATING WORKS
Criminal rating (CR) tracks your standing with law enforcement. Actions like illegal trading, theft, or murder increase your CR. At high CR, law enforcement becomes hostile on sight. Criminal rating affects mission availability and NPC interactions.
GAINING CRIMINAL RATING
- Illegal cargo transport — Moving contraband increases CR proportional to cargo value
- Theft and salvage abuse — Taking property from others or from restricted areas
- Murder and assault — Killing or attacking non-target NPCs or players (immediate spike)
- Piracy — Attacking lawful traders or merchants
- Enemy faction alignment — Choosing criminal-aligned factions raises CR over time
CLEARING YOUR RECORD
- Pay fines at kiosks — Spaceports have fine kiosks. Pay your CR to reduce rating incrementally. Costly but fast.
- Serve prison time — If apprehended, accept prison sentence. Time served reduces CR. Free but takes real time.
- Complete lawful missions — High-rep UEE and faction lawful missions slowly reduce CR over time.
- Time decay — CR naturally decays if you avoid illegal activities. Very slow; other methods faster.
CRIMINAL RATING EFFECTS
- Low CR (0–5) — Minimal NPC reaction. Law enforcement may question you but typically friendly.
- Medium CR (5–15) — Law enforcement becomes wary. Bounty hunters may appear. Some vendors refuse service.
- High CR (15+) — Wanted status. Immediate hostility from law enforcement and bounty hunters. Most vendors blocked. Prison transport may intercept you.
BOUNTY HUNTING & CRIMINAL PROFIT
High criminals can be hunted by players and NPCs for bounties. Some pilots choose to build criminal reputation intentionally to access exclusive criminal mission chains (piracy, black-market trading) and criminal faction unlocks. High risk, high reward. Expect constant combat if you go this route.
